George Springer’s future with the Toronto Blue Jays remains uncertain, but John Schneider has made it clear how much the veteran has meant to the organization.

With Toronto nearing the end of its 2026 season, Schneider reflected on Springer’s leadership during a difficult year. The manager highlighted how Springer handles change without allowing it to affect his approach.
“He’s changed the trajectory of the organization. He said he wanted to do that when he got here, to leave it better than when he got here. I think he’s done that. So he’s meant a lot to me.” Schneider said, as relayed by Thomas Hall on X.

That leadership has been especially valuable during a season in which Toronto fell out of the postseason race. The Blue Jays entered 2026 as the defending American League champions but were eliminated earlier this month.
Springer has remained a regular contributor despite being 37 years old. He entered Saturday hitting .251 with a .323 on-base percentage, 15 home runs, 54 RBIs and 12 stolen bases in 124 games.

His six-year, $150 million contract is also nearing its conclusion, making the final games of the season particularly notable for the longtime Blue Jays outfielder. Springer signed with Toronto before the 2021 season and has been part of the franchise’s most recent competitive era.
He has also dealt with physical setbacks this season, including a knee issue in September that briefly kept him out of the lineup. Still, he returned to play during the final stretch.
Springer has not indicated what comes next. Earlier in September, he expressed his affection for Toronto and the organization while acknowledging that he had not gotten far enough into his thinking about his future.
For now, Schneider’s comments offer a reminder of Springer’s role beyond his statistics. As Toronto prepares for the offseason, the veteran’s next chapter remains one of the bigger questions surrounding the Blue Jays.
