Taking to X on Wednesday, Herbstreit shared a video of himself and Peter showing up at the air strip to fly out to Cleveland for tomorrow’s game. A few hours later, he shared a photo of Peter enjoying the sights and sounds of Cleveland.

“Here we go! Peter and I hitting the road for our first game of the year for @NFLonPrime,” Herbstreit wrote on X.

Fans wished the pair well, but especially Peter:

“How is it fair that Peter gets to fly in a private jet while other dogs are stuck in commercial coach? Golden Retriever Privilege! Kidding of course,” one user on X wrote.

“I hope Peter has been conditioning. He’s got a marathon of good boys/pets and smiles that await!!!!” wrote another.

“Hope we see Peter on more TNF broadcasts. He’s all over Gameday, but rarely seen on TNF. #FreePeter,” a third wrote.

“My dogssss are so back.”

“It’s Peter season.”

Herbstreit in 2026

Kirby and Peter Herbstreit are going to be getting plenty of walks in this season. Prime Video will have 16 NFL regular season games to call, plus a Wild Card weekend game in the playoffs.

And that doesn’t even account for all of the College GameDay broadcasts Kirk will have to do this season. Last year GameDay did 21 shows, not counting the 2026 NFL Draft. The number will probably be about the same this year.

There are some people that have complained about having to see Kirk Herbstreit play with his dog on the show too often. But for that level of traveling and work, a guy is allowed to have some fun when he can.
