This week’s marquee college football matchup between No. 14 Tennessee and visiting No. 1 Texas has been a tight one to be sure with almost no margin for error on either side. But one Texas defender very nearly messed everything up with a sack celebration that earned the team a penalty and the player the ire of Kirk Herbstreit.

In the second quarter, Texas pass rusher Colin Simmons managed to get through and take down Tennessee QB Fazion Brandon for a big third-down sack to force fourth down. But then the yellow flag came out.
As it turned out, Simmons had pantomimed peeing on the field after sacking Brandon and was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct.
“Unsportsmanlike conduct, defense, No. 1, for simulating using the restroom,” the referee said.
That penalty Tennessee a fresh set of downs and really seemed to upset Herbstreit and broadcast partner Chris Fowler.
“Just an absolute idiotic move by Colin Simmons doing that,” Herbstreit said.
“Yeah, it’s idiotic, and it doesn’t get much more vulgar, either,” Fowler replied.

Too immature or not?
Fans quickly began to debate whether Simmons’ act was truly as disgusting as Herbstreit complained it was or if he, Fowler and even the game officials were just being dramatic:
“The best part has to be the guy acting like ‘what did I do?’ After miming whipping his junk out and taking a leak everywhere,” one user joked on X.
“Absolutely incredible. No notes,” wrote another.
“I think it could get more vulgar but we’ll just leave that alone,” a third wrote.
“What the heck? Good for the referee being blunt.”
“Show me in the rule book where it explicitly says you can’t ‘simulate using the restroom.’”
Fortunately for Simmons and the Longhorns, Tennessee was unable to capitalize on the new set of downs that he had given them. They wound up turning the ball over on downs before halftime.

The game is being played on ABC. Texas leads 13-10 early in the fourth quarter.
