“Diego Sarabia, one of the Cornell students accused of sexual assault, is suddenly out of a job at Wells Fargo as prosecutors reopen their investigation of the alleged 2024 incident,” TMZ posted Sept. 28. “We’re told the decision was directly tied to the Tompkins County D.A.’s announcement Monday his office is considering criminal charges.”
The Charlotte Observer contacted Wells Fargo for comment on the report, and has not heard back. The bank has not confirmed Sarabia was a Charlotte-area employee.
Cornell University issued a statement on Sept. 21, noting it “is aware of a lawsuit concerning the deeply disturbing allegations of sexual assault” involving seven fraternity brothers.
“The Xi chapter of Chi Phi fraternity remains barred from our campus. Federal privacy law prohibits Cornell from disclosing specific information regarding individual students, and we therefore are unable to make a public statement on any other disciplinary response,” the university’s statement said.
Reports of Sarabia’s separation from the bank come two weeks after a former Cornell student filed a lawsuit alleging “she was gang raped after being coerced into consuming drugs by several men at the Chi Phi fraternity house at Cornell in 2024,” according to The Cornell Daily Sun.

The seven Chi Phi members named in the suit include Diego Sarabia, who is accused of “heinous criminal sexual acts.” He was a full-time undergraduate student at the time, the lawsuit says.
Court documents in New York report paperwork for the lawsuit was “mailed to Sarabia’s mother’s home in Bethel, Connecticut,” WTNH says.
Attorneys for some of the men named in the lawsuit have disputed the sex assault accusations, and reports they were using drugs, according to ABC News.
