Owen Coyne, a co-captain for Marblehead High School’s football team, has sadly passed away this week. He was 18 years old.

It was revealed by the Coyne family that Owen suffered a brain hemorrhage. His physical condition wasn’t caused by an impact, per the family. The Marblehead School District shared this tragic news with its community on Friday afternoon. Counseling has been offered to everyone impacted by this unexpected loss.
“All of us at Williams College are deeply saddened by the passing of Owen. He was truly a special young man and a an outstanding student athlete. We were extremely excited to have Owen becoming a part of our team,” said head Williams Football Coach Mark Raymond. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family and friends.”
Unthinkable tragedy for everyone who knew Owen.
On Friday, the Coyne family issued a statement on their devastating loss.
“It is with broken hearts and unimaginable sadness that we share that our beloved Owen has passed away. There are simply no words for the loss of a child, a brother, a captain, a teammate, a friend, and a young man who is so deeply loved by so many. Owen brought so much joy, laughter and light into the lives of those who knew him, and the impact he made will remain with us forever,” the Coyne family said, via NBC Boston.

“Our family is incredibly grateful for the extraordinary love, prayers, and support that have surrounded. Owen and all of us throughout these past days. As we try to navigate this unimaginable loss, we ask that you continue to hold Owen close in your hearts and surround all those who loved him, especially his friends and classmates, with the same love and compassion you have shown our family.
Owen Coyne played baseball and football while also making time for Marblehead’s track team. According to WCVB, his organs will be donated to save the lives of five strangers.
