Mick Foley has no regrets about ending his long-running relationship with WWE, even though walking away from his Legends deal has meant a significant drop in his earnings. The WWE Hall of Famer recently explained why he decided not to renew the agreement and why he remains comfortable with the choice.

Foley’s relationship with WWE had already changed considerably by the time the Legends deal expired in July. He said he had not actually worked for the company for nine years, with his connection mainly consisting of signing merchandise and making occasional appearances. Foley had announced in late 2025 that he would not renew the deal, citing his discomfort with WWE’s relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump. The agreement officially expired on July 1, ending his 30-year relationship with WWE.

“And they were just, uh, going in a direction. And I mean, people know I wasn’t comfortable with their… I don’t… this isn’t a politically motivated show at all, but I just thought they were a little too cozy with our current president. And he was saying some things that I could not abide by and, uh, so I just, um, told WWE I would be parting ways with them.”
Foley’s decision came despite the financial benefits of remaining under the WWE deal. He later realized just how large the difference was when he worked independently at WrestleCon in Las Vegas.

“I’ve never regretted it, Kenny. I realized when I was at WrestleCon in Las Vegas that I had to work about 20 hours to make what I would have made in four hours with WWE, and I’m okay with that. So, yeah, it was a decision.”
Mick Foley Has Since Started A New Chapter With AEW
Foley’s WWE departure has not meant stepping away from wrestling. He appeared for AEW as the co-host for the buy-in show for Double or Nothing on May 20, 2026, and later became part of the company’s programming, giving him another promotion after his WWE Legends agreement ended.
The Hardcore Legend has also continued his work outside weekly wrestling television, including his “40 Years of Foley” tour and the recently launched “Mick and Kenny Show.” His WWE chapter has closed, but Foley remains active in wrestling while standing by the decision that brought that relationship to an end.
