The California Museum is gearing up for its biggest event of the year, its annual Dia de los Muertos Fiesta.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, the downtown Sacramento museum will honor the Mexican holiday with a new art experience, workshops, performances and more. This will be the 13th year the California Museum puts on a party and cultural festival for Dia de los Muertos.
Throughout the evening, attendees will be able to peruse a brand-new collection of altars, watch traditional folklorico and Aztec dance performances, enjoy Mexican cuisine from local businesses and learn about the remembrance holiday.
Tickets for the fan-favorite event are on sale now, and early bird admission tickets were already sold out within the first 24 hours of the sale.
What will California Museum’s Dia de los Muertos festival include?
Attendees of the 2026 Dia de los Muertos Fiesta at the California Museum will be the first guests who get to experience “Sendero de las Almas Luminosas” — which translates to “Path of the Luminous Souls” — an artistic and cultural experience featuring altars placed throughout the museum’s exhibits.
Artists with the Los Angeles-based Self Help Graphics & Arts organization, which serves members of the Chicano and Latino communities in the region, created the altars. In a news release, the museum said each altar is designed to reflect themes of the exhibit it will be placed in.
Guests will be able to navigate the widespread “Sendero de las Almas Luminosas” exhibit with a map, and it will remain open until Sunday, Nov. 15. Members of the community are also invited to pay remembrance to lost loved ones at a community altar in the museum throughout the exhibit’s run, the news release said.
At the Dia de los Muertos festival, attendees will also have the opportunities to watch musical and dance performances from groups like Sacramento’s Ballet Folklorico, Maquilli Tonatiuh Aztec Dancers, Las Hijas de Maria and the all-women Mariachi Bonitas de Dinorah Klingler.
Mayahuel will sell food, drinks and snacks to attendees and local vendors will sell items at a Dia de los Muertos-themed market in the museum. Other family-friendly crafts and activities, including a sugar skull workshop — which requires advance registration — are planned for this year’s holiday party.

Guests are encouraged to wear costumes to the California Museum’s Dia de los Muertos Fiesta. The Oct. 10 celebration will run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., according to the museum’s news release.
How much are tickets to Dia de los Muertos Fiesta?
All attendees to the annual Dia de los Muertos Fiesta are required to purchase tickets ahead of time, as there will be no sales at the door.
Tickets for guests aged 3 and older cost $15 per person. Younger attendees aged 2 and under get in for free, but tickets must also be reserved for them online.
The California Museum also offers ticket bundle options, which include pre-purchased food and beverages:
- Ticket Bundle 1 – General admission ticket, a taco plate and an alcoholic cocktail: $45
- Ticket Bundle 2 – General admission ticket, a taco plate and a non-alcoholic beverage: $40
- Ticket Bundle 3 – General admission ticket and a taco plate: $30
Guests can also purchase food and drink tickets at the event starting at 5 p.m. on Oct. 10.
California Museum members have the opportunity to enter the festival for free, but tickets must be claimed ahead of time through the museum’s membership office. Members will be able to enter the event through an expedited entry lane and have access to an exclusive VIP terrace, which will have complimentary snacks and a dedicated bar.
The California Museum said on its website the event is expected to sell out, so interested attendees should purchase their tickets early to ensure availability.
