Wilson explained the comparisons between Carter and Micah Parsons, even though the Giants’ edge “wants to be his own person.”
Carter had a disappointing rookie season, stat wise, with only four sacks in 17 games. But he did have 25 solo tackles and seven tackles for loss, despite only starting six games while dealing with disciplinary issues.
Dennard Wilson Understands Abdul Carter-Micah Parsons Comparisons
Giants fans know Parsons well. The Green Bay Packers OLB and former Dallas Cowboys edge has six sacks in nine career games against the Giants.
So the comparison to Parsons is high praise for Carter, but Wilson, a former NFL defensive back, understands it.
“You see it,” Wilson told the New York Post. “But Abdul wants to be his own person. He wants to be Abdul Carter, and that’s what I want him to be. Just be your best him that he can be on a daily basis and we’ll get a helluva player.”

Like Carter, Parsons was a top-15 pick, but he has emerged as a perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate. Wilson sees similar potential in Carter as a double-digit sack performer.
“As a pass rusher, he has very good active hands,” Wilson said. “His hand usage is extremely good, and he’s cat quick, where he can bend a corner. If he works on the edge, it’s very hard to beat him. When he finishes rushes, he always finishes with a violent rip, and what that does is it doesn’t give you a full surface, it gives you half a man. His rip is unbelievable.”
Abdul Carter ‘Has Dynamic Traits’
Carter’s underlying numbers told the story of his potential. But watching him, both on film and on the field, Wilson can see his potential.
“He has endless potential,” Wilson said. “He has dynamic traits.”
Carter is a part of a loaded outside-linebacker group, along with Kayvon Thibodeaux, Brian Burns and potentially Arvell Reese. Yet, Wilson pointed out Carter’s ability to set the edge, which could help the Giants’ run defense improve after they finished 31st in 2025.
“He’s actually better in the run game than people give him credit,” Wilson said. “That’s all about his technique and fundamentals, and he has the ability to move around a lot. You can put him in different spots. He can win one-on-ones.”
