The New York Jets have made it official: running back Breece Hall and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell are both out for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

Mitchell is the bigger concern. His finger injury will now be the reason he’s missed his third consecutive game. He caught a finger in a defender’s jersey at a Sept. 24 practice and has been listed as week-to-week from that point.
If he doesn’t rebound for the next game, the roster management of not putting him on injured reserve will raise a few eyebrows. Head coach Aaron Glenn has so far refused to reveal just what damage Mitchell’s finger sustained, but said he has not undergone surgery.
“I’m not a doctor,” Glenn said. “When it comes to a receiver and you talk about a finger, those things vary when it comes to difficulty as far as catching the ball and the pain tolerance. Actually, he’s progressing faster than we thought he would, once we got to the end of knowing exactly what the prognosis was as far as his finger. I like where he’s at and hopefully we’ll see how that goes onto next week.”
Isaiah Williams caught a 58-yard touchdown bomb from quarterback Geno Smith in the Bears game, but has been mostly quiet in his backup stint.
Jets receivers have had a tough year. Rookie Omar Cooper Jr. (High ankle sprain) and Arian Smith (ACL) are both on injured reserve.

If Mitchell doesn’t rebound for the next game against New England, the roster management of not putting him on injured reserve will raise a few eyebrows.
Hall’s quad injury has now kept him out of two straight games. It’s a tricky injury, particularly for a running back that relies on a burst and quick cuts. In his place, running back Braelon Allen will again step up. He was one of the few bright spots against the Chicago Bears, racking up 59 yards (a 4.2 average) and catching two passes. But his pass protection has been spotty at best.
Also out for the Cleveland game is left guard Dylan Parham (knee) and linebacker Kiko Mauigoa (quad).
The Jets will welcome back starting tight end Mason Taylor, who was out for two games with a thumb injury. They also may activate receiver Tim Patrick (groin), who was on injured reserve but has been practicing.
The Jets will face an improved Cleveland Browns at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. The Browns are 3-1 and coming off a 27-24 win against their archrival Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football. The win has the Browns occupying first place in the AFC North.
