NFC West standings: Rams finally inch closer to 49ers in Week 7

It took seven weeks, but for the first time all season, the Los Angeles Rams have finally gained some ground on the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC West. The Rams started the season with a loss to the 49ers in Australia and in the five games that followed, San Francisco went undefeated, while Los Angeles went 2-3.

Entering Week 7, the Rams were four games behind the 49ers. But on Sunday, they inched closer to the division leaders thanks to a win over the Raiders and the 49ers’ loss to the Atlanta Falcons. It was San Francisco’s first loss of the season, dropping to 6-1 on the year. The Rams, meanwhile, are now three games back at 3-4.

The Seattle Seahawks were dominant in their 20-3 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, while the Arizona Cardinals dropped another game and now sit alone in last place in the West.

NFC West standings

  1. 49ers: 6-1 (3-0 in NFC West)
  2. Seahawks: 4-3 (1-1)
  3. Rams: 3-4 (0-2)
  4. Cardinals: 2-5 (1-2)

It’s not the closest the Rams have been to the 49ers, as they were just one game back after Week 1. But it’s certainly better than being four games behind. And considering they’re only one game behind the 4-3 Seahawks, they’re well within striking distance in the NFC West.

Plus, they’ll have a chance to get a half-game closer to the top this week when they play the Chargers because San Francisco is on a bye.

The Rams’ odds of winning the West are still long, but they’re undoubtedly better than they were a week ago.
