Ohio State Fans Have Sent Disturbing Threats to Ryan Day’s Wife

Ohio State suffered a catastrophically bad loss on Saturday night.

The Buckeyes were leading the Texas Longhorns by 20 points in the second half of Saturday night’s game in Austin. Ultimately, though, Ohio State was not able to hold onto the lead. The Buckeyes blew a three-score lead to Arch Manning and Co.

Texas pulled out the huge win, 24-23, on Saturday.

Ryan Day has led Ohio State to a national championship, and several big-time wins over the years, but he’s had some bad losses, too. This was one of them. In the past, Ryan Day’s wife, Nina, has spoken out against the harshness of the Buckeyes’ fan base.

Nina Day previously admitted that Ohio State fans threatened her, her family and even her teenage son, following bad losses. The coach’s wife also revealed a “disturbing” message, in which Ohio State fans told Day to follow in his “father’s footsteps.” Ryan Day’s father tragically died by suicide when he was young.

It’s been rough following bad losses for Day’s family.

“The greatest thing for our family is that our children saw him fail. They saw a lot of people come at their dad. They saw a lot of people attack him and attack our family. And I think for them to see him fight the way that he has, not back down and continue believing in his players and his coaches and staying steady, I think it was really wonderful to see my kids see him win these last three games [in the Playoff],” she told 10TV.

Ohio State has a ‘lunatic’ fringe portion of fan base

Kirk Herbstreit has referred to these Ohio State fans as the “lunatic fringe.”

Every fan base has them. However, Ohio State’s slice is probably as big as any.

“I’m a friend of Ryan Day. He and I talk on a regular basis about more than just football, so I hear things that he and his family go through. Especially Nina, his wife. His son, who gets death threats from multiple, multiple people. And what it’s doing to them as a family,” Herbstreit said.

‘When I hear that, it really frustrates me that he has to deal with putting an armed guard outside his house 24/7 for his own fanbase. That hurts my heart that that is a reality for the Ohio State coach.”

Hopefully, the Day family isn’t dealing with any serious threats following Saturday night’s loss to Texas.
