The Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots are about to play to open the 2026 season after just facing off in last season’s Super Bowl.

The Seahawks got the better of the Patriots in that matchup, and it’s clear neither team has forgotten about that meeting. The Patriots enter Week 1 wanting revenge, while the Seahawks want to prove their last victory was no fluke.
When you think about the Patriots dynasty of the 2000s, wide receiver Julian Edelman is definitely one of the top names that comes to mind. Edelman is a New England legend, but ahead of this matchup, he took some time to praise the Seahawks in a big way.
Edelman ‘So Impressed’ With Seahawks
On Tuesday, ahead of the big matchup, Edelman appeared on “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd. Naturally, the topic of Edelman’s former team getting another shot at the Super Bowl champions was brought up.
Edelman made it known that he’s very impressed with what he’s seen from the Seahawks over the last year, and he expects them to stay elite.
“I’m big on Seattle,” Edelman said. “They’re returning 20 of 22 starters… I think this is a storm brewing to just wipe out a lot of teams. They’re really good.”

As Edelman mentioned, the Seahawks are basically returning the same team that just won the Super Bowl. Riq Woolen and Coby Bryant are the only regular starters who are no longer on the team, but Ty Okada and Josh Jobe are considered more than capable replacements.
“I was so impressed with [Seahawks head coach] Mike Macdonald’s calm, cool and collected demeanor but also his way where he’s big with the connections with the players, but he also has kind of that hard alpha trait to him because he is a defensive guy and his mentality with steering the ship. I’m so impressed with every single guy they have,” Edelman added.
Edelman’s point is why the Seahawks are so elite. They have a defensive guru head coach, while also having a quarterback who has more wins over the last two seasons than anybody else in the league. The Seahawks also have one of the best wide receivers in the league in Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
You know a team is impressive when a Patriots legend like Edelman feels the need to praise them ahead of a big game.
