Which WinCo foods were recalled in California?

On Oct. 1, WinCo Foods recalled two types of Salsa Bean Dip Trays that were distributed through its retail stores, according to the FDA.

The Idaho-based company operates stores throughout California, including in the Sacramento region and Central Valley communities.

There are stores in Modesto and Fresno.

The recalled products are:

  • WinCo Foods Salsa Bean Dip Tray Express — UPC 2-67173-#####, with a weight of 54 ounces.
  • WinCo Foods Salsa Bean Dip Tray, 16-Inch Catering Tray — Made by special order only, UPC 2-67240-#####, with a weight of 104 ounces.

The affected trays have “best if used by” dates ranging from Aug. 14 through Sept. 25.

Why were WinCo bean dip trays recalled?

The trays were recalled because they contained recalled Mezzetta peperoncini.

American Canyon-based G. L. Mezzetta Inc. recalled a single lot of its Golden Greek Peperoncini Medium Heat on Sept. 26 after a consumer video appeared to show a dead mouse in one jar, according to the FDA.

The video was posted to TikTok on Sept. 16 as a “public service announcement.”

The recall affected 32-ounce jars of Mezzetta peperocini with the following information:

  • SKU: 10106328
  • Lot: 720106

Mezzetta said the recalled lot was distributed nationwide, including to customers in California. However, the company did not identify the specific stores or retailers that received the affected lot.

WinCo said it has not received any complaints about pests or illnesses associated with the recalled bean dip trays.

“WinCo Foods did not have or use any product with evidence of pests included in the jar, nor has the company received any complaints regarding potential pests or illness related to the bean dip trays to date,” the company said in its recall notice.

Since the bean dip trays are prepared deli items with a short shelf life, WinCo said, the “product is not expected to still be in consumers’ homes.”

The company also said any products that might have been made with the recalled peperoncini were removed from stores.

What should I do if I bought recalled deli items?

If you bought recalled WinCo bean dip trays, do not eat them.

WinCo said consumers with questions or concerns can contact its customer service desk at 1-800-824-1706 or reach the company through its online customer service contact form.
