The grants were awarded by the Sacramento Area Council of Governments, an association of local governments in the region that works to address regional issues such as transportation and housing.
Rancho Cordova was awarded $2.8 million for pavement rehabilitation on Folsom Boulevard from Mather Field Road to Zinfandel Drive, a roughly 1.3-mile stretch. The project will also include pavement striping and sidewalk improvements.
The city was also awarded $574,000 for preventive street maintenance on Sunrise Boulevard from north of Highway 50 to the American River Bridge, a roughly 1.4-mile stretch.

“These grants will help the city maintain and extend the life of two important transportation corridors while improving roadway conditions that will enhance safety, improve quality of life and promote economic development in the city of Rancho Cordova,” Public Works Director Albert Stricker said.
City spokesperson Samantha Lieuwen said construction on both projects is expected to begin next year.
The Sacramento Area Council of Governments awarded a total of $46 million in grants for 24 transportation projects across Sacramento, Placer, Yolo, Yuba and Sutter counties at the end of September. The projects are intended to “improve and repair pavement, help goods move through the region and provide long-term economic benefits,” according to a release from SACOG officials.
