A red flag warning for wildfire danger has been issued for northern portions of the Sacramento Valley and northern Sierra Nevada foothills, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service issued the warning for areas spanning from Tehama County south through Glenn, Colusa, Butte, Sutter and Yuba counties, including portions of the Sacramento Valley and surrounding foothills. It is in effect 11 a.m. Saturday through 11 a.m. Monday, the weather service said Saturday.
While the warning is in place, weather conditions will make it easier for fires to start and spread rapidly. Temperatures are expected to decrease, but gusty winds and low humidity will increase the potential for wildfire activity across much of Northern and Central California, latest forecasts show.
A lower-level fire watch warning was initially issued before it was upgraded to a red flag warning.
To prepare, residents should have an emergency plan in case of fire, and be sure to follow local burn bans and evacuation orders if they are issued.
PG&E power shutoffs possible
Pacific Gas and Electric Co. earlier this week said it might shut off power to as many as 14,000 homes and businesses in parts of 12 Northern California counties, doing so as Public Safety Power Shutoffs in response to strong winds increasing wildfire danger.
PG&E’s outage website as of 10:30 a.m. showed about 1,400 customers without power due to public safety shutoffs, in parts of Placer and Nevada counties.

PG&E said possible shutoffs throughout Saturday could affect portions of El Dorado, Lassen, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra and Tehama counties.
On Sunday, the potential shutoff area expands to portions of Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Lassen, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Tehama and Yolo counties.
By Monday, PG&E said possible shutoffs were limited to portions of Colusa, Glenn and Tehama counties.
What is a red flag warning?
A red flag warning signifies that either extreme fire weather conditions are currently in effect or will be shortly.
Warm temperatures, very low humidities, and stronger winds are expected to combine to produce an increased risk of fire to spread rapidly, according to the weather service.
