A local business owner has acquired a long-vacant former nightclub building on Alhambra Boulevard, and plans to convert it for retail.

Mark Hutchason said he bought the former Blue Lamp club building at 1400 Alhambra Boulevard. He said the site had been empty since the nightclub closed in 2019.
Hutchason said he acquired the building this summer, as first reported by the Sacramento Business Journal. He plans to set up a store there to sell secondhand luxury goods. His store in Elk Grove — which sells handbags, Rolex watches and jewelry — has outgrown its space.
Hutchason also owns Elk Grove Plumbing Heating and Air, which was founded in 2018, and said he’s an investor in two planned restaurants, one of them expected to open next month in Galt.
Hutchason said he’d like to open the Alhambra Boulevard store later this year, in time for the holiday retail season, but the timing would depend on approvals.

He needs to install new lighting in what was previously a dark nightclub, and add jewelry cases.
“We plan on brightening it up and putting a little bit of money into the building, and making it beautiful again,” he said. “Fingers crossed for the holidays. But could be the beginning of the year.”
The Alhambra Boulevard building was home to a title company in the 1950s, and has a vault that can’t be torn down without compromising the building, Hutchason said. Later, it was used as a dressing room for performers.
