Kristina Huemann Siedlecki, 26, was convicted in the death of her daughter, Jannah Ali Abughazaleh, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday in a news release.

The little girl died on Aug. 25, 2024, Sacramento County Coroner records show. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Prosecutors said Siedlecki’s husband and the child’s father, Hussein Ali Abughazaleh, placed Jannah in a bath with dangerously hot water, causing severe burns over more than 30 percent of her body. Siedlecki arrived home while the baby was still in the bathtub.

Siedlecki saw Jannah’s skin turn red, then peel and blister, and the burns extended from the baby’s mid-back to the back of her legs and heels, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Despite the extent of the infant’s injuries, neither parent sought medical attention in the days that followed. Prosecutors said Jannah later died from complications related to the burns.

Prosecutors said internet searches on Siedlecki’s phone showed she understood the danger of not treating her daughter’s injuries, but she avoided seeking medical treatment because she feared she would be arrested.

On the morning of Jannah’s death, Siedlecki noticed the baby’s breathing had changed. Prosecutors said Jannah became limp before becoming unresponsive.

Instead of calling 911, Siedlecki went on social media while her husband waited nearly 45 minutes before contacting a friend for help, according to the DA’s Office.

Prosecutors said Siedlecki’s failure to obtain medical care resulted in her daughter’s death.

Detectives with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office arrested Abughazaleh, the child’s 26-year-old father, along with Siedlecki on suspicion of homicide in December 2024. Abughazaleh died before he could stand trial.

Sacramento County coroner records show Abughazaleh died Feb. 7, 2025, and his death was ruled an accident. Jail records show Abughazaleh, who faced a murder charge in his daughter’s death, was released that same day.

A court ordered Abughazaleh’s compassionate release from jail, and he died hours later, KCRA reported. Sheriff’s officials told KCRA that Abughazaleh was taken to a hospital Jan. 26, 2025, after a medical emergency and was given a “grave prognosis” by medical professionals.

Siedlecki has remained in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail since her Dec. 3, 2024, arrest. She was scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 23 in Sacramento Superior Court.

Prosecutors said Siedlecki faces a maximum sentence of 15 years to life in prison.
