That’s according to the organizer of a new GoFundMe fundraising campaign.
Gurvinder Singh, 28, is recovering from injuries he received in a brutal attack at a rest area off Interstate 80.
The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office in Wyoming has arrested a suspect in connection to the Sunday, Sept. 13, incident.
“This attack has left Gurvinder, his family and those who care about him devastated,” organizer Lovepreet Singh wrote on GoFundMe. “Right now, the focus is on helping him survive, stabilize, and receive the urgent treatment needed for his injuries.”
What happened to Sacramento truck driver?
According to the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, the stabbing took place early Sunday morning near the Bitter Creek rest area on I-80.
Gurvinder Singh, who has been driving trucks commercially on I-80 for the past three years, said he walked into the rest area’s bathroom after parking his truck.
“When I entered the restroom, I just looked in the mirror,” Singh previously told The Sacramento Bee.
Then a strange man “rushed in, punched me in the neck, pushed me against the wall and kept punching me in the face,” he said.
Singh said he pushed his attacker away, only to have the man lunge at him with a knife.
“I received cuts on my arms, neck and chest, including a deep cut on the left side of my chest under my arm,” Singh said. “I was able to see the naked bone on my right arm.”
His attacker “fled the scene in a tractor-trailer combination towards Rawlins following the attack,” the Sheriff’s Office said
Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers located the suspect — later identified as San Gabriel Andrew Kris Bzdak, 44, of San Gabriel — in Rawlins and arrested him, the Sheriff’s Office said.

As of Friday, Sept. 8, Bzdak was being held at the Sweetwater County Detention Center on suspicion of attempted murder, according to the jail records and Sheriff’s office.
The attack on Singh sent shockwaves across the United States, with members of the Sikh community reacting with sorrow and anger.
Is stabbing victim still in the hospital?
Singh suffered a number of severe injuries, including a punctured lung, according to the GoFundMe fundraiser.
“We are pleased to report that Mr. Singh was released from the hospital last night,” Jasjit Singh Dhanoa, attorney and director of legal services of Jakara Movement, told The Bee via phone on Friday.
Gurvinder Singh is now “on a long road to recovery, surrounded by family and friends,” Dhanoa said.
How to help Northern California man injured in attack
According to the GoFundMe page, Gurvinder Singh does not have medical insurance.
“The costs of emergency care, surgery, hospital treatment, medication, rehabilitation and follow-up care may be overwhelming,” Lovepreet Singh said.
As of Friday afternoon, the GoFundMe campaign “Help Gurvinder Survive After a Brutal Stabbing in Wyoming” had raised more than $12,000 toward a $100,000 goal.
Contributors included the Asian American Foundation, which gave a $10,000 donation.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated, shared the fundraiser, and kept Gurvinder in their thoughts,” Lovepreet Singh wrote in an update on the GoFundMe site.
“Your support means more to our family than we can express during this incredibly difficult time,” Singh wrote. “Every donation and share makes a meaningful difference.”
