Semitruck overturns, dangles over I-80 near Truckee, shutting lanes

A semitruck crash on Interstate 80 near Truckee shut down all eastbound lanes for hours Friday, according to California Highway Patrol.

The California Highway Patrol posted on social media stating that the crash involved a single big rig near Floriston, east of Truckee. The truck overturned near Hirschdale, and its cab was left dangling about 80 feet over the roadway while damaging the freeway railing, according to an incident log.

No other vehicles were involved. The driver was reportedly ejected from the truck and injured, according to South Tahoe Now.

The California Highway Patrol did not respond to The Sacramento Bee’s request for an update on the crash.

The closure came as traffic increased along I-80 with travelers from the Bay Area heading to Burning Man, the annual festival in Black Rock City, Nevada, which began Sunday.
