SLO County evacuation warnings issued for Plaskett Fire burning along Highway 1

Evacuation warnings were issued for the northernmost parts of San Luis Obispo County on Sunday afternoon as the Plaskett Fire once again nearly doubled in size.

According to the SLO County Office of Emergency Services, evacuation warnings were issued for zones SLC-001, 002 and 003 on Sunday. That area stretches from the SLO County line to north of Carpoforo Creek and Via Piedras Blancas and west of Green Canyon.

An evacuation warning means there is a potential threat to life and/or property. Those who require additional time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock were advised to leave now.

The warnings come as the Plaskett Fire once again nearly doubled in size, ballooning to 15,479 acres as of 3:03 p.m. Sunday, according to Cal Fire.

That was up significantly from the morning’s reported acreage of 8,241 acres.

The fire remains 1% contained.

An evacuation shelter was set up for evacuees at the Cambria Veterans Memorial Building, 1000 Main St in Cambria.
