One driver is dead after a collision Wednesday afternoon involving tractor-trailers and trucks that closed southbound Highway 99 south of Galt, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Four vehicles — two big rigs and two pickup trucks — were involved in the 12:25 p.m. collision on southbound Highway 99 near Jahant Road in Acampo, San Joaquin County, that left a person pinned in a vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.
By 12:38 p.m., CHP reported a fluid leak and said all southbound lanes needed to be closed. Traffic was diverted off Highway 99 at Jahant Road.
CHP issued a SigAlert shortly after 1 p.m. and said there was no estimated time for the highway to reopen. An earlier CHP log entry indicated the closure could last several hours.
Traffic on Highway 99 was backed up to Galt, 8 miles to the north in Sacramento County, after 1:30 p.m., according to Caltrans traffic map.

California Highway Patrol officials at the patrol’s Stockton office confirmed a driver of one of the pickup trucks died in the collision.
The driver’s identity will be released by San Joaquin County coroner’s officials once next-of-kin have been notified.
The California Highway Patrol was investigating the crash. The cause of the collision was not immediately known Wednesday afternoon.

Caltrans officials advised motorists to expect delays and use alternate routes.
