The Houston Texans return home Sunday for a Week 2 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, and rookie guard Keylan Rutledge has made his mindset clear. The first-round draft pick wants the offensive line to establish a physical tone from the opening snap.

“If you’re gonna punch somebody in the face into the echo of the whistle, I think you’re all good,” Rutledge said. “That’s just what I do. I’m not gonna do anything extra after the whistle, but I’m gonna fight you until I hear it. Maybe a step after, and that’ll be how I play, We wanna go set the tone up front.”
His message aligns with what Houston needs after a 36-31 loss to Buffalo. The Texans moved the ball well enough in Week 1, rushing for 124 yards while C.J. Stroud completed 26 of 38 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns. The bigger task now is turning that production into a complete offensive performance against Cincinnati.
“I think you wanna be aggressive, you wanna go punch somebody in the face. You wanna establish a run, set the tone, protect the quarterback, and take care of the ball. (0:37) And that’s what I do,” Rutledge cleared his thoughts.
Rutledge appeared composure-bound in his NFL debut. The rookie played all 79 offensive snaps at right guard against Buffalo and allowed just one pressure, permitting zero sacks or quarterback hits.

Texans Face Several Roster Questions Before Bengals Game
Receiver Nico Collins was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday before sitting out Thursday’s practice session, leaving his Week 2 status uncertain.
That is a major concern because Collins immediately showed his value in Week 1. He caught seven passes for 75 yards and a touchdown against Buffalo. Houston’s passing game is built around his ability to win outside and create explosive plays.
If Collins cannot play, Houston does not necessarily need one receiver to replace all of his production. Stroud showed in Week 1 that he can distribute the football. He connected with 11 different players against Buffalo. The Texans can also increase opportunities for their other receivers and use different personnel groupings to create favorable matchups.
The defense must also recalibrate after a rough opener. While the offense produced enough points to keep Houston competitive against Buffalo, the defense allowed 409 total yards and 36 points. Edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. provided a spark by recording six pressures and half a sack, yet the unit requires more disruptive consistency overall in Week 2 against Joe Burrow.
