Allen is one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks, but Houston remains a strange exception. He will make his 123rd consecutive regular-season start on Sunday against the Texans; this contrast makes this opener one of the interesting Week 1 games.
The latest Texans victory was especially convincing defensively, as the Texans sacked Allen eight times. Buffalo now has a chance to end both the recent losing streak but before that here are the takeaways before the Sunday game.
Josh Allen Is 1-4 Against the Texans
Across five total meetings, only one victory for Allen. He is 1-4 overall, with his only win coming in Buffalo in 2021. The Bills crushed Houston 40-0 that day, with Allen completing 20 of 30 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns. His four losses tell four different stories.
Allen’s first Houston game came in 2018, when an elbow injury ended his afternoon. In the 2019 playoffs, Buffalo blew a 16-0 lead before losing 22-19 in overtime. The 2024 game saw Allen complete only nine of 30 passes in a 23-20 loss decided by Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 59-yard field goal.

Josh Allen Has Never Won a Game in NRG Stadium
Every one of Allen’s four starts in Houston has ended in a Buffalo loss. Across those four games at Reliant Stadium, he has thrown for only one touchdown against two interceptions, with a combined 66.13 passer rating. His career passer rating is 94.4. Allen has completed 67 of 127 passes for 732 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions in his four games in Houston. He has also been sacked 14 times. Those numbers explain why this venue has become such a difficult stop for him.
Last year, Allen improved to 24-of-34 passing for 253 yards, but the Texans still won. Houston intercepted him twice and forced a fumble. Buffalo moved the ball at times, but could not sustain enough offense.
When Did the Bills Last Beat the Texans in Houston?
The Bills has been waiting since November 19, 2006. That is six consecutive losses in Houston. Buffalo is 5-6 against the Texans all time, with Houston winning six straight home meetings.
This is not simply Allen trying to fix a personal record. Buffalo is trying to end a nearly 20-year road drought against Houston. The Bills have a new head coach in Joe Brady, added DJ Moore to the offense and still have Allen at the center of everything. A Week 1 win would erase plenty of recent history at once.
