Arch Manning and the No. 4 Texas Longhorns entered Saturday night’s matchup against No. 1 Ohio State carrying the weight of consecutive losses to the Buckeyes, including last season’s opener in Columbus.

After Texas erased a 20-point fourth-quarter deficit to win 24-23, Manning revealed just how much the previous defeat had stayed with him and admitted that another loss to Ohio State was unacceptable.
“We couldn’t lose to them again,” Manning said. “I had nightmares about that game last year. So, we’re glad to get a win tonight. We’ll have a good night in Austin.”
Texas trailed 23-3 entering the fourth quarter before Manning led three consecutive touchdown drives. Longhorns running back Hollywood Smothers completed the comeback with a one-yard touchdown run with 25 seconds remaining.

Manning could only complete 17 passes for 170 yards in last season’s loss. On Saturday, he finished 23-of-37 passing for 196 yards, one touchdown and one interception. In the fourth quarter alone, Manning completed eight of 11 passes for 83 yards as Texas scored 21 unanswered points.
The quarterback credited the entire team for finding a way through a difficult night that looked everything but positive throughout the first half.

“So proud of our guys,” Manning said. “In all three phases. It wasn’t very pretty but we found a way to win. That’s what good teams do.”
The comeback also ended Texas’ losing streak against Ohio State and evened the all-time series at three wins each.
Ohio State defeated the Longhorns in the College Football Playoff semifinals pertaining to the 2024 season before beating them again in the 2025 season opener.

With Saturday’s win, Texas improved to 2-0 and earned its first home win over a No. 1-ranked opponent since 1950, per The Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Mac Engel.
Manning and the Longhorns will next face UTSA in their final nonconference game next Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
