Officiating is a tough job. NFL refs consistently face criticism from players, coaches, fans and more. Ultimately, they’re paid incredibly well to maintain their composure and make calls to the best of their abilities. They’re going to make mistakes from time to time, just like everyone else.
But staying professional on the field is important.
On Sunday, two NFL referees appeared to act quite unprofessionally, during heated moments on the field.
In one moment, an official in the Giants vs. Cardinals game appeared to have words for Arizona tight end Trey McBride, who was frustrated with a no-call. Video of the apparent heated exchange went viral on social media.
The referee appeared to have some curse words for McBride, according to lip readers on social media.

NFL fans were not happy.
“That’s a penalty and a fine if McBride said that to him,” one fan wrote.
“That ref should be fined, at least,” one fan added.
“If he really said that, he needs to be fined or suspended,” one fan added.
In another game, an NFL referee appeared to be visibly angry following an accidental collision with a player.
“NFL referee Adrian Hill flipped out at #Vikings LB Eric Wilson for an unintentional collision. 🤷🏻♂️ Watch closely and you can even see Wilson trying to help Hill up after he lost his footing,” Jordan Schultz shared.
That referee should be embarrassed and criticized, too.
“That’s so embarrassing, man,” Yahoo! Sports’ Nate Tice shared on X.
NFL players and coaches often face fines or suspensions for poor behavior on the field. It’s time to start holding the referees accountable for this, too. They should not be immune to a fine or suspension if they are acting unprofessionally.
