Warriors Reportedly Losing Momentum In LeBron James Sweepstakes

When LeBron first announced that he would be leaving the Los Angeles Lakers, a large swath of fans quickly pointed to the Golden State Warriors as his most likely next destination. But as the week has gone on, the Warriors are apparently losing steam in the LeBron sweepstakes.

Appearing on Get Up, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania revealed that the Warriors are no longer seen as a “top of the list” team for LeBron. He pointed out that the Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat have all made moves or have players that make their teams a little more appealing

“So much has changed. There’s fluidity that comes with it. A few days ago the Sixers didn’t have Jaylen Brown so now they do. Now they have to be on the radar of LeBron James. The Cavs, the Heat, their two teams that are known quantities,” Charania said.

“The Warriors going into Free Agency dreamt up a grand plan of Draymond, Steph, LeBron, but the big domino with them is trying to get a player like Anthony Davis to bring LeBron and AD as a package deal. Short of that, they’re not really looked at as the top of this list.”

A look at the options

There has certainly been a lot of momentum for the Philadelphia 76ers lately. The team’s acquisition of Jaylen Brown combined with the presence of guys like Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey gives them a pretty decent core group of players for LeBron to work with and not have to be at the center of everything.

LeBron of course has previous ties to both the Cavaliers and the Miami Heat.

The Cavaliers were just in the Eastern Conference Finals and are getting great results from Donovan Mitchell.

As for the Heat, their acquisition of Giannis Antetokounmpo instantly raised them from a team that was a fringe playoff contender into a legitimate threat to win the East.

And that’s just the options that Charania had the presence of mind to state on television. There are certainly more teams out there that have a core LeBron could work with.
