Despite losing star quarterback Sam Darnold early in the game, the Seahawks were able to knock off the New England Patriots. Darnold escaped the worst-case scenario, but he will have to miss at least Week 2.

It didn’t seem like a huge deal at the time, because the Seahawks play the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2. There’s no such thing as a guaranteed win in football, but this was about as close as it gets. The Seahawks are coming off a Super Bowl win, while the Cardinals are projected to be among the league’s worst squads.
Well, Week 1 has changed that way of thinking. The Cardinals are responsible for one of the biggest surprises of the opening weekend, as they took down the Los Angeles Chargers.
Seahawks Cannot Afford to Overlook Cardinals
The Chargers were considered by many to be a lock to win in Week 1. Nobody is high on the Cardinals, and they were considered one of the favorites to land the No. 1 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
The Cardinals definitely didn’t look like the worst team in the league on Sunday. Jacoby Brissett completed 27 of 37 passes for 277 yards and one touchdown. Brissett and running backs Jeremiyah Love and Tyler Allgeier combined to rush for 116 yards and one touchdown.

On defense, the Cardinals forced a fumble, an interception, and racked up three sacks and five tackles for loss. Meanwhile, Omarion Hampton was held to just 43 rushing yards and Justin Herbert to just 209 passing yards.
Weird results happen in Week 1, but this feels oddly sustainable for the Cardinals. The Chargers are a very talented roster, but the Cardinals’ complementary football was just too much to handle.
Now, the Seahawks will have to take down the Cardinals without their star quarterback. Of course, the Seahawks still have elite weapons and an elite defense, but Drew Lock is going to have to be more than just a placeholder.
We’ve seen several notable upsets already, so the Seahawks have to be guarded. It’s not just the offense that has to perform, but the defense as well.
