When you see a Dallas Cowboys wide receiver wearing the No. 88 jersey, you know you’re watching one of the best in the game, and CeeDee Lamb continues to live up to the lofty expectations that come with that honor.
Lamb delivered a ridiculous performance Sunday against the Houston Texans, hauling in 17 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown, and the Cowboys needed every last one of those catches to escape with a 34-30 comeback victory.
The last of those 17 catches came with 40 seconds left in the game, as Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott hit Lamb from 12 yards out for what would prove to be the game-winning score:

As impressive as Lamb’s box score was by the end of the game, his numbers could have been even more eye-popping. A perfectly run double-move route left Lamb flying down the right sideline all by himself for what could have been a walk-in touchdown from 41 yards out, but Prescott never looked his way.
Lamb was understandably demonstrative in his disbelief and disappointment:

Lamb’s 17 receptions are tied for the fourth-most in a game in NFL history, and the highest number we’ve seen since Keenan Allen snared 18 passes for the Los Angeles Chargers back in 2023. It’s still not the Cowboys’ franchise record, though, which is held by legendary tight end Jason Witten, who caught 18 passes against the New York Giants back in 2012.
That number was a career-high for Lamb, though, and it marked the 13th time in his seven-year NFL career that he’s made double-digit receptions in a game.
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Lamb’s big numbers from Sunday is the fact that he lit up the box score against one of the league’s better defenses, with a secondary led by one of the NFL’s best cornerback tandems in Derek Stingley Jr. and Kamari Lassiter.
Along with a hat trick of touchdown runs from running back Javonte Williams in the second half, Lamb’s pass-catching prowess helped the Cowboys rack up 28 points after halftime to prevent the team from dropping to 1-3 on the season.
After last week’s heartbreaking loss in Brazil against the Baltimore Ravens, the Cowboys turned the tables with a dramatic victory to shift the momentum of their season in the early going. Lamb’s historic day was a huge reason why they were able to mount the successful comeback, and they needed every bit of what he brought to the table to come away victorious.
