Boss Mhoon, widely regarded as the top rising junior in Bay Area high school boys basketball, will not be transferring to powerhouse Archbishop Riordan as previously announced, he told the Bay Area News Group on Monday night.

Mhoon said that the Central Coast Section ruled him ineligible for the full school year at Riordan, through June 2027.
He attended The King’s Academy in Sunnyvale for his first two years of high school, firmly establishing himself on the regional radar with stellar performances against top competition.
Mhoon said in a text message that he does not plan to attend Riordan this school year but didn’t add where he will go to school.
CCS commissioner Dave Grissom declined to comment on Mhoon’s status when reached by the Bay Area News Group. Riordan coach Joey Curtin did not respond to a text message, and TKA coach Cameron Bradford chose not to comment when reached.
According to California Interscholastic Federation rules, a student-athlete transferring schools without a full family residential move triggers a sit-out period unless a hardship waiver or “did not play” status applies.
Sit-out periods can vary on a case-by-case basis. CCS rules require transfer students not making a full family move to submit paperwork, which will then be reviewed to determine the student’s eligibility.
A source told the Bay Area News Group that Mhoon’s eligibility was affected by his former trainer, who is now on the coaching staff at Riordan.

Players are generally not permitted to follow a coach to a new school without sitting a full season.
Sit-out periods often involve missing just part of the season. Football players transferring within the CCS, for example, often must sit out for the first four games of the season.
Mhoon, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound small forward, is a four-star prospect, according to the major recruiting sites, and the No. 52 junior in the country, according to the 247Sports composite.
He has received offers from Virginia Tech and Utah this summer to accompany previous offers from Cal, Stanford, Rutgers, Santa Clara and USF, among others. Mhoon has also been invited to the Nike Elite 100 camp and USA Basketball U17 junior national team tryouts.
When the Bay Area News Group reported in June that Mhoon was transferring to Riordan, Bradford said, “They did what they thought was in the best interest of the family. I love him and I love the family, and I’m wishing them nothing but the best. I don’t really have anything to say other than that.”
With Mhoon leading the way, TKA reached a state final in 2025 and the Division I regional final this past season.
