Despite unimpressive production prior to his transfer, thanks in large part to erratic quarterback play, Coleman’s skill set and pro potential were obvious anytime he was on the field. That buzz is only going to grow now that he’s catching passes from Arch Manning in Austin, and it won’t be surprising if he’s one of the first non-quarterbacks off the board when next April rolls around.

Strengths
If football is just basketball on grass, Coleman is the uber-athletic, slashing wing who can jump out of the gym and create high-flying highlights every time the ball comes his way. The combination of size, length, athleticism, leaping ability and ball skills he brings to the table makes Coleman nearly uncoverable on 50/50 balls, and any red-zone throw in his direction feels like an automatic score. He’s a smart receiver who knows how to use his footwork and explosiveness to pace his routes effectively, setting up defenders and blowing past them with impressive acceleration. He has the top-end speed to consistently beat man coverage over the top, and he’s not afraid of contact when asked to make tough catches in traffic. His speed and explosiveness also make him a dangerous weapon after the catch, turning short grabs into long gains.

Weaknesses
There aren’t many glaring holes in Coleman’s game, but there are parts of the route tree that could use some refinement, particularly when it comes to staying in the defender’s blind spot when throttling down and breaking out of comeback routes to create maximum separation. His production was fairly meager at Auburn relative to his talent, but that can mostly be blamed on lackluster quarterback play.
Final Analysis
In any other draft class, Coleman would be the easy WR1 with his size, skill set, and knack for making ridiculous catches look routine. As it is, he’s still a clear top-10 talent with the ability to instantly become the top target for a number of teams in the league. With a little more expansion and polish on his route tree, Coleman should be a superstar sooner than later in the NFL, especially if he lands with a quality quarterback and offensive coordinator.
