Nick Lodolo’s return to the injured list has prompted another rotation change for the Cincinnati Reds, with manager Terry Francona confirming Rhett Lowder will take his place after the All-Star break. The club also recalled right-hander Chase Petty from Triple-A Louisville to bolster its pitching staff.

Lodolo exited his last start against the Chicago Cubs after his recurring left index finger blister resurfaced. The left-hander expressed frustration after the game, saying he believed the latest treatment had solved the issue before the blister returned.
The setback is another frustrating chapter for Lodolo, whose season has been interrupted multiple times by the same injury. Through 12 starts, the 28-year-old is 3-2 with a 4.60 ERA, 50 strikeouts and a 1.47 WHIP over 62.2 innings.
Francona said Lowder will move back into the rotation after the break.

Lowder will now receive another opportunity to solidify his place in Cincinnati’s rotation. The former first-round pick has appeared in 15 games, including 13 starts, posting a 3-6 record with a 5.05 ERA and 58 strikeouts across 67.2 innings this season.

Petty’s promotion gives the Reds another fresh arm as they adjust their pitching plans heading into the second half. Cincinnati has relied heavily on its young pitching depth throughout a season marked by multiple rotation injuries.

The Reds enter the All-Star break with a 43-51 record, sitting fifth in the National League Central and 15.5 games behind the first-place Milwaukee Brewers. With their postseason hopes fading, the organization will be looking for contributions from younger pitchers like Lowder over the final months.
For Cincinnati, getting Lodolo healthy remains a priority. If Lowder can provide stability while the left-hander recovers, the Reds could gain valuable clarity about their rotation heading into the remainder of the 2026 season.
