Wednesday was Jaxson Dart’s first official day as New York Giants quarterback under head coach John Harbaugh.

To all Giants fans’ delight, Dart did everything he was supposed to according to the veteran head coach.
Harbaugh detailed how productive Dart’s first day of training camp was and how he looked after practice at The Greenbrier in West Virginia.
Dart, of course, has been the Giants’ starting quarterback since Week 4 of the 2025 season, and participated in both OTAs and minicamp. But he entered training camp as the undisputed No. 1 QB.

The relationship between head coach and quarterback can transform a team. Look at Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes with the Kansas City Chiefs, or from a Giants perspective, Phil Simms and Bill Parcells, and you’ll see a duo that is intrinsically tied together.
But Dart needs to satisfy Harbaugh’s expectations to develop that relationship. Fortunately, the second-year quarterback did that.
“I thought he had a good day today,” Harbaugh said of Dart. “He had us in and out of the huddle, called everything correctly, did a great job with the cadence, the line … all those pre-snap things that are so important.”
Like any interpersonal relationships, the coach-quarterback combo will have hiccups. Dart needs to master Matt Nagy’s new offense, and Harbaugh will have bigger expectations than just getting the cadence right.

But so far, so good for the Giants.
“He looked good Day 1,” Harbaugh said. “So we’ll just try to build from that.”
Jaxson Dart ‘Loves’ John Harbaugh’s Intensity
The Giants keep describing Harbaugh as “intense” and keep raving about his “love of the game.” Dart picked up on that from Day 1.
“I love Harbs,” Dart said. “There’s a lot of things that stand out as to why he’s been so successful in this league.
“I’m super pumped for right now and continuing to move forward with him.”
Harbaugh brings the Giants a standard they haven’t had for an incoming coach since at least Tom Coughlin in 2004 – and even he hadn’t won the Super Bowl as a head coach like Harbaugh has.
But even with that advanced pedigree – and being an old-school, 63-year-old son of a football coach – Harbaugh has found ways to reach young players like the 23-year-old Dar
“I think the really cool thing is, he’s so open to communication from the coaching staff to the players,” Dart said. “I think it’s been really cool to have that openness; [he has] no ego and ultimately he just wants to win.
“He’s got a chip on his shoulder, so I’m interested to see how his demeanor continues to grow.”
