Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies wounded a man in an officer-involved shooting Friday morning in the county’s La Riviera neighborhood but deputies escaped injury, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The man who was shot was en route to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for treatment, according to dispatchers’ audio reviewed by The Sacramento Bee. The man’s condition was not known.
“More details will be released as they become available,” deputies said in a preliminary update on social media.
Details of the 10:26 a.m. shooting in the 8700 block of Barracuda Way continue to emerge, but deputies believed the man was connected to an earlier auto theft before the confrontation. According to dispatchers’ audio, deputies headed to nearby Mackinaw Way, where a witness said a shirtless man was attempting to take a car from the home’s garage.

The man was believed to have been armed when shots were fired. A firearm was found near the man, deputies told dispatchers.
