Predicting How Many Sacks Montez Sweat Will Have in 2026

One player on the Chicago Bears that doesn’t get talked about nearly enough is Montez Sweat.

With the Bears offense now being the strength of this roster, Sweat isn’t mentioned in those conversations for the best player on the team. Part of that also likely plays into the fact that at 29 years old (turning 30 on September 4th), Sweat may not be in Chicago for that much longer.

Another key fact is that with the Bears needing another edge rusher to step up, Sweat is pretty much dismissed as the top guy in this unit that doesn’t need to be talked about. While that’s understandable, how well Sweat plays in 2026 is still going to have a major impact on this Bears roster.

Based on what Sweat did in 2025 and the situation around him, we’ll be predicting the stats for him in this upcoming 2026 season.

Montez Sweat 2025 Sacks

Last year, Sweat had 10 sacks, which was a big step up from 2024, when he had 5.5 sacks. This was the best season that Sweat had in terms of sacks since 2023. That was the year Sweat was traded from the Washington Commanders, and between the two teams, Sweat had 12.5 sacks.

Considering that since 2022, Sweat has had at least eight sacks in three of the years and 10 in two, I’m expecting him to end the season with 11 sacks even though he’s going to be 30 in 2026.

The reason why is that Sweat didn’t have much help next to him, with Gervon Dexter Sr. having six sacks on the interior, which is a good number, but at the defensive end spot, Austin Booker had the third most sacks at 4.5.

With Booker, who’s 23 years old, hopefully taking a step forward in 2026 and Dayo Odeyingbo coming back from his Achilles injury in 2025, this should take some focus off Sweat.

At the same time, PFF had Sweat with 460 pass rush snaps, which was 13th in the NFL, and given that the Bears didn’t make any major moves that would point to him coming off the field more, that should continue.

With Sweat recording 54 pressures (18th) and 37 hurries (11th) per PFF, it’s not a shock he was able to get 10 sacks, and it’s also reasonable to think he could have a similar season but with a slight increase to get 11 sacks.
