On Monday at 12:01 a.m. the NWS Reno NV released an extreme heat watch valid from Thursday 8 a.m. until Sunday 8 a.m. for Lassen-Eastern Plumas-Eastern Sierra counties.
The NWS informs, “For the Heat Advisory and the Extreme Heat Watch, lower valley highs 95 to 102 degrees with overnight lows between 58 to 65 degrees. Widespread Moderate HeatRisk.”

“Heat-related illnesses will be more likely, especially for those spending extended periods outdoors, in poorly cooled indoor spaces, or who are sensitive to heat,” explains the NWS.
This watch is in effect until Aug. 9 at 8 a.m.
NWS Heat Wave Safety Tips: Stay safe with these recommendations
- Stay hydrated: Remember to drink plenty of fluids.
- Seek shelter: Stay indoors in an air-conditioned room to keep cool.
- Look out for others: Stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
- Ensure child and pet safety: Take every precaution to never leave young children and pets alone in vehicles, especially in extreme heat when car interiors can quickly become hazardous.
- Take extra precautions outdoors: If you work or spend time outside, be sure to take additional safety measures.
- Time your activities wisely: When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
- Be alert to warning signs: Educate yourself about the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
- Stay cool with clothing: Select lightweight and loose-fitting outfits for enhanced comfort.
For a safer outdoor work environment, follow the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)’s guidance by scheduling regular rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned places. If anyone shows signs of heat illness, promptly move them to a cool, shaded area. In an emergency, call 911.
