Person rescued from American River after jumping from Rainbow Bridge in Folsom

A person was rescued from the American River and taken to a hospital Wednesday afternoon after jumping from Rainbow Bridge in Folsom, according to the Folsom Fire Department.

Fire crews responded about 4:50 p.m. to Rainbow Bridge over the American River near Greenback Lane after receiving reports of an injured person on the rocks along the north side of the river.

Firefighters used Boat 35 to reach the patient and transport them across the river to a nearby boat launch, where the patient was transferred to an ambulance for transport to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Photos released by firefighters showed rescue crews treating the injured person on rocks beneath Rainbow Bridge in an area where other people appeared to be recreating along the river.

The Folsom Fire Department did not release the person’s identity or condition. Officials also did not say what led to the incident.
