The Hornets previously announced games against Cal, which now plays in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and North Dakota State in 2027. Sac State will play at Oregon State in 2029. There are also efforts to schedule Nevada and San Jose State in upcoming seasons, Hornets coach Alonzo Carter said Saturday after practice.
Sac State is preparing for its first NCAA Division I FBS seasons after competing in the second-tier FCS from 1993-2025. As an FCS school, it posted big wins over FBS programs.

Sac State pulled out a 29-28 win at Oregon State in 2011 when the Beavers were members of the Pac-12, then topped Colorado 30-28 on the road in 2012 under coach Marshall Sperbeck.
Under coach Troy Taylor, Sac State rolled Colorado State 41-0 in 2022 during a record-setting 12-1 Hornets season. In 2023, Sac State stunned host Stanford 30-23 under first-year Hornets coach Andy Thompson.
