Duff performed at the TD Pavilion at Highmark Mann in Philadelphia as part of her global “Lucky Me” tour that extends to 2027. While on stage, the beloved-by-millennials pop star likened her tour itinerary to that of James’s well-traveled NBA career.

“We started in Florida, went to L.A., we’ve ended up here, I’m starting to feel like LeBron,” Duff said, breaking out in a wide grin.

Duff is, of course, forgetting Cleveland, where the four-time NBA champ spent 11 total years of his career and helped lift the Cavaliers to a title in 2015. Duff did perform in Cincinnati last month but her tour didn’t start in Ohio.

Nevertheless, Duff’s shoutout to ‘Bron elicited loud cheers from the audience-and their plus-ones who were probably much more excited about the fact that one of the NBA’s biggest superstars had chosen Philly as his likely last stop. Lucky them.

Hilary Duff and LeBron James are two millennial GOATs, albeit in very different spaces

Duff skyrocketed to fame as a cultural teen idol sensation during the early 2000s, when she got her big start as an actress on Disney Channel. The Lizzie McGuire star simultaneously sprung into the music industry under Disney’s Hollywood Records and gained more worldwide fame in 2003 for her breakout pop studio album, Metamorphosis, which sold over three million copies in the U.S. alone. In many ways, Duff paved the way for future Disney Channel queen-of-all-trade stars (like Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus) by successfully bridging her television and music careers.

Duff has starred in her fair share of nostalgic Disney Channel films (A Cinderella Story, Agent Cody Banks) in the past and recently taken on more grown-up roles, including the lead in the Emmy-winning spin-off sitcom, How I Met Your Father. She’s also a best-selling author, has her own fashion and fragrance lines and was named as one of TIME’s 100most influential people in 2026.

At heart, though, Duff is a performer. Her “Lucky Me” world tour is her first in nearly 20 years, and she announced it this past February with a perfect callback to her Lizzie McGuire days. For all the OG Disney channel-watching fans out there, Duff’s musical renaissance is, indeed, what their dreams are made of.

The 41-year-old LeBron James, who kicked off his NBA career in 2005 and has since gone on to enjoy an illustrious career rivaling the likes of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, might be a bit more famous than Duff when it comes to mainstream media.

James is part of an aging group of millennial superstars including Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, James Harden and others who have dominated the league for the last two decades, with the newly minted 76ers player arguably standing alone as the generation’s biggest icon to date. His Decisions control the news cycle. His face is plastered on billboards across the globe. It’s virtually impossible to talk about the modern era of basketball without mentioning The King.

To most people in America, James is more of a household name than Duff-well, depending on which household you ask-but one can’t deny that they both have deeply and irrevocably impacted the millennial generation, just on different wavelengths.
