South Lake Tahoe Mayor Cody Bass, arrested after a fracas outside a Tahoe-area bar last year, was found guilty of misdemeanor harassment in the September 2025 incident, the Tahoe Daily Tribune reported.

Bass was scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 1. He faced up to six months in county jail and a $1,000 fine.
The verdict came Thursday in Tahoe Justice Court, the Daily Tribune first reported. Bass was arrested Sept. 25, 2025, outside Lake Tahoe Aleworx, a Stateline, Nevada, brewpub, on suspicion of assault, trespassing, and harassment.
Douglas County, Nevada, sheriff’s deputies said the charges stemmed from a verbal and physical altercation with a brewpub employee, the Daily Tribune reported at the time.
Bass had reportedly been banned from the establishment after an earlier report of battery and trespassing, the Tahoe newspaper reported, citing the deputy’s report. Bass’ arrest came nearly two weeks after South Lake Tahoe’s then-mayor attempted to take her own life after admitting to stealing funds from her church.

Prosecutors later dropped the assault charge, and Thursday, Bass was found not guilty of the trespassing charge.
In a statement to The Sacramento Bee, South Lake Tahoe City Manager Hilary Roverud said the city was aware of Bass’ guilty verdict, calling it a “personal legal matter.”
Roverud added that a misdemeanor conviction unrelated to an officeholder’s City Council duties did not require the council member to resign from office or forfeit their seat.
“The matter is unrelated to his duties or conduct as a member of the South Lake Tahoe City Council,” the statement read in part. “The City Council and city staff remain focused on carrying out their responsibilities to the community, including the delivery of essential services, implementation of Council priorities, and transparent, accountable local governance.”
