The New York Giants have only four wide receivers on their roster, but offensive coordinator Matt Nagy doesn’t seem too worried about it.

The Giants offensive coordinator addressed the team’s lack of wideout depth and expressed confidence in Malik Nabers, Malachi Fields, Odell Beckham Jr. and Darnell Mooney.
The Giants, of course, released Darius Slayton on Monday, leaving them with just four healthy wideouts. Punt returner Braxton Berrios can also play slot receiver, but he has not yet been elevated from the team’s practice squad.
Matt Nagy Has ‘A Lot of Confidence’ in the Giants’ Receivers
Nagy was asked directly about only having four receivers on the roster entering Week 1, as it pertains to Isaiah Likely’s potential contribution.
“The four-receiver thing, for us, we have a lot of confidence in those guys,” Nagy said. “I’ll start there with the wide receivers, and they’ve done a great job.”
Yet, Nagy also pointed out the Giants’ offense is designed to work through multiple personnel groupings. The additions of Likely, plus fullback Patrick Ricard, open up the potential for them to play 21 or 12 personnel, rather than the three-wideout 11 personnel many teams deploy.

In doing so, the Giants will be less reliant on receivers and can trust Likely, plus running backs Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary, to make plays.
“I think that’s one of the strengths that we’ll have, is being able to be multiple in personnels and that’s always been something that all of us have done,” Nagy said. “So, what we’ve done is we’ve challenged these receivers, these tight ends, the fullbacks, to know everything, and as a coach, what that does is it allows you to be multiple, and then it’s our job on game day to be able to really just make adjustments to what we see and let these guys play fast.”
The Giants Wide Receivers Are Still Better Than 2025
There may be fewer wide receivers on the Giants’ roster, but they are still significantly better than the group Brian Daboll repeatedly deployed in 11 personnel.
Of course, they lost Calvin Austin III for the season to a non-contact torn ACL, but the troika of Nabers, Mooney and Fields is still superior to the 2025 Week 1 starters, Nabers, Slayton and Wan’Dale Robinson.
So feel how you will about Nagy and his run-first offense. There still are concerns about Nabers’ recovery from a torn ACL and Beckham, who didn’t play in a game last season.

But the Giants offense enters Week 1 in better shape than it did last year.
