Texas A&M had a lot of success last season due to its schedule, as the Aggies avoided most of the top SEC teams. Texas A&M did beat Notre Dame early in the season, but didn’t play another good team until the final week of the season, when they lost to the Texas Longhorns, and then lost to Miami in the playoff.
It was a disappointing end to the Aggies’ season, but many predicted it due to their weak strength of schedule.
This season, Texas A&M didn’t get lucky with its schedule. The Aggies host Arizona State this Saturday, which isn’t an easy opponent, then play Kentucky, LSU, Arkansas, and Missouri in their next four games.
Texas A&M also has to play Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Oklahoma, and Texas, as the Aggies have a gauntlet of a schedule.

Not only is the schedule tough for Texas A&M, but I’m also not sold on the Aggies’ talent. Quarterback Marcel Reed struggled when he played good teams last year, and the 2026 schedule is filled with plenty of tough teams.
Even this weekend, Arizona State is a dark horse team, as it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them play the Aggies tough.
Yet, in all likelihood, Texas A&M starts the year 3-0 but will lose to LSU, and likely drop games to Alabama, and likely lose two or three more to either Tennessee, Missouri, Oklahoma, or Texas.

Ultimately, 2026 will be a difficult year for the Aggies because the schedule is tough, and the offense led by Marcel Reed isn’t great, as Texas and Miami proved last season.
Texas A&M has odds of +190 to make the College Football Playoff.
Texas A&M Embracing ‘Tough’ Road Schedule
Texas A&M has one of the toughest schedules in college football, which the Aggies are fully embracing.
After the Aggies’ schedule was revealed, head coach Mike Elko said the team is embracing it and wants everyone to remember how they called it hard before the season.
“We all signed up for this and to play in this conference,” Elko said back in July. “When you do that, you know that the road to success will come through your ability to win in some tough road environments. …
“I just hope everybody remembers this conversation as the season unfolds because they said the same thing last year. Then during the season, all they talked about was how our schedule is weak.”
If Texas A&M can go 10-2 with this schedule, the Aggies should be in the playoffs. But, to me, this is a 8-4 or 9-3 at team at best.
