That picture had surely changed by the end of the game, as the Ducks left Stillwater with a damaging loss that could reshape their path to the College Football Playoff.
Oregon fell 39-31 to an Oklahoma State team riding a 12-game losing streak, and coach Dan Lanning delivered an unusually blunt assessment of what went wrong for the Ducks on Saturday.
“The score was closer than it really was, because it wasn’t close in a lot of ways,” Lanning told reporters. “We got our [expletive] kicked in a lot of areas. Tons of credit to coach Morris and his staff.”

The stats supported Lanning’s frustration. Oklahoma State outgained Oregon 554-281, including a 237-90 advantage on the ground and a 317-191 advantage in passing yards, while recording 25 first downs to the Ducks’ 12.
Oregon also struggled to sustain offense throughout the afternoon, with star quarterback Dante Moore completing only 14 of 29 passes for 191 yards. As a team, the Ducks converted just five of 14 third-down opportunities and went 0-for-3 on fourth down.

In upsetting Oregon, Oklahoma State became the first team with an active losing streak of at least 10 games to defeat a top-10 opponent.
The Cowboys finished 1-11 last season, had lost 21 consecutive games against FBS opponents and opened 2026 with a 24-10 loss to Tulsa.

For Oregon, the defeat immediately shrinks its margin for error. Road games against No. 14 USC and No. 1 Ohio State remain on the schedule, while No. 19 Washington also awaits later in the season.
Oregon will try to recover when it hosts Portland State next week before beginning Big Ten play on the road against USC.
