Under Maresca, the Sky Blues have enjoyed a flawless start to their Premier League campaign, sitting comfortably in second place with nine points from their opening three matches.
City are also coming off a 2-0 Champions League victory away against FC Porto in midweek, giving Maresca’s side additional momentum heading into the derby.
On the other hand, the Red Devils have endured a shaky start to their season and currently sit in 11th place with four points.
Carrick’s side bounced back from its early struggles by thrashing Champions League debutants Sabah 4-0 during the week, providing a much-needed confidence boost for Bruno Fernandes and Co.
The Englishman can also look back to his debut match as United manager for inspiration, when he led the Red Devils to a 2-0 victory over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at Old Trafford.
Recent history also favors United, with Carrick winning nine of his 10 Premier League home matches since returning to the club.

Who Is the Referee for Manchester United vs. Manchester City?
Michael Oliver will be the match referee for today’s massive Premier League clash. The highly experienced English official is from Ashington, Northumberland.
Oliver made history in August 2010 when he became the youngest-ever Premier League referee at 25 years and 182 days old. He has since officiated 431 Premier League matches in his career.
Since making his Premier League debut, Oliver has become one of the league’s most experienced active officials, handing out more than 1,400 yellow cards and 40 straight red cards.
The 41-year-old has refereed seven Manchester derbies during his career and has overseen 51 Manchester United matches, handing United players 106 yellow cards and five red cards.
Oliver has also officiated more than 60 Manchester City matches, handing out 88 yellow cards during those games.
Throughout his career, Oliver has awarded United eight penalties while also giving seven penalties against them. He has awarded Manchester City 11 penalties.
