SAN FRANCISCO – Earlier this week, Jackson Flora got his first taste of professional playoff baseball. Now, he’ll have another chance to pitch in the postseason – in a more difficult environment.

Flora, the Giants’ top pitching prospect, has been promoted from Single-A San Jose to Double-A Richmond, the team announced Sunday. He will pitch for Richmond next week against the Erie SeaWolves, the Detroit Tigers’ Double-A affiliate, in the best-of-three Eastern League Southwest Division.
This promotion guarantees that Flora, the fourth overall pick in the 2026 MLB draft, will appear again this season.
If Flora stayed in San Jose, he would’ve been lined up to pitch Game 3 against the Lake Elsinore Storm. With the California League Championship Series being a best-of-three, there was no guarantee that Flora would pitch.

By promoting Flora to Richmond, the Giants are guaranteeing him an opportunity to start and challenging him against higher competition. San Francisco’s brass hasn’t decided whether Flora will start next season in Richmond.
The 21-year-old Flora, the fourth overall pick in the 2026 MLB draft, had a dominant outing for San Jose on Thursday against the Stockton Ports, pitching two scoreless innings and striking out the final four batters he faced. The Pleasanton native and Foothill High graduate has pitched three scoreless innings with six strikeouts with San Jose to start his professional career.
