South Lake Tahoe Mayor Cody Bass on Tuesday was ordered to serve 10 days in the Douglas County Jail for a misdemeanor harassment conviction stemming from a scuffle with a bar employee a year ago on the Nevada side of the state border.

Bass’ sentence also included 35 days of suspended jail time for the bar scuffle, said Douglas County Chief Deputy District Attorney Chelsea Mazza.
Mazza said the suspended jail sentence will remain in place for two years, and Bass could be ordered to serve the additional time if he violates the court’s orders.
After serving his 10-day jail sentence, Bass must pay $1,127 in fines and fees, and he is prohibited from entering the casino corridor between Kahle Drive and the Nevada-California state line, Mazza said.
For the next two years, Bass must remain sober and will be subject to search, seizure and testing to ensure compliance with the court’s sobriety condition. Mazza said Bass must also stay away from the victim and not try to contact them.
Adam Spicer, Bass’ attorney, asked the judge if Bass could serve his jail sentence when his term in office ends in three months, according to the Tahoe Daily Tribune, which first reported Bass’ sentencing.
Mazza said the judge denied Spicer’s request and ordered Bass into the custody of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to immediately begin serving his jail sentence.

In August, a jury found Bass guilty of harassment stemming from the September 2025 scuffle outside Lake Tahoe AleWorX, a brewpub in Stateline, Nevada. Bass was arrested on suspicion of assault, trespassing and harassment.
Sheriff’s officials said Bass was involved in a verbal and physical altercation with a brewpub employee, the Tahoe Daily Tribune reported. Bass had reportedly been banned from the brewpub after an earlier report of battery and trespassing.
Prosecutors later dropped the assault charge, and the jury in August found Bass not guilty of trespassing.
After Bass’ conviction in August, South Lake Tahoe City Manager Hilary Roverud said in a written statement to The Sacramento Bee that the city was aware of Bass’ guilty verdict and called it a “personal legal matter.”
Roverud said a misdemeanor conviction unrelated to an officeholder’s City Council duties did not require the council member to resign from office or forfeit their seat.
“The matter is unrelated to his duties or conduct as a member of the South Lake Tahoe City Council,” the city manager said in the August statement.
