Back in August, the Tar Heels announced that Bill Belichick’s son, defensive coordinator Steve Belichick, would be placed on medical leave and would be out indefinitely. The program didn’t have much to say regarding his future in Chapel Hill at that time.
Well, North Carolina confirmed Thursday that Belichick has resigned from his position as the school’s defensive coordinator. As for why he walked away from the Tar Heels, it sounds like there’s a lot more to the story.
North Carolina revealed that it investigated allegations of culture problems within the football program.
“The investigation determined that certain actions demonstrated a disregard for Carolina’s values and standards of conduct. The investigation also found that these
actions were isolated in scope and not a systemic failure.”

What about Bill Belichick?
Barring a shocking announcement, North Carolina is expected to retain Belichick as its head coach even though his son his now off the staff.
Belichick is hoping to improve to 3-0 this Saturday against Clemson. A win would certainly give the fan base at North Carolina something to cheer about.
That being said, Bill Belichick has a lot of dysfunction to overcome this weekend. Not only did North Carolina announce Steve Belichick’s departure, the school announced that wide receiver Keeyun Chapman has been suspended from the team for a separate incident.
