Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies shot a carjacking suspect early Friday after a pursuit ended in the Arden Arcade area, authorities said.

The incident began about 5:20 a.m. when sheriff’s dispatchers received a report of a possible carjacking, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Ed Igoe said.
Deputies located the vehicle and began a pursuit, Igoe said. The chase ended near Edison and Watt avenues, where Igoe said an officer-involved shooting occurred. Radio dispatches reviewed by The Sacramento Bee showed deputies had deployed a spike strip as the vehicle drove northbound on Watt at Edison. The vehicle continued on before making a U-turn at Watt and Longview Drive before heading south when the shooting occurred just before 6 a.m.

The suspect was taken to a hospital. Igoe did not immediately provide information about the suspect’s condition or say what prompted deputies to open fire.
No deputies were injured, Igoe said.
Watt Avenue was shut down in both directions between Edison Avenue and Whitney Avenue as investigators remained at the scene Friday morning. Motorists were asked to avoid the area.
