A new poll shows that 75% of California Latino voters disapprove of President Donald Trump’s job in his second term — the latest sign that the demographic that helped propel Trump to reelection are now likely to reject his party in the midterm elections.

The polling, released Tuesday by the Latino Community Foundation, examined Latino voters’ views on several issues and races related to 2026 midterms in California and Texas. The data — which found overwhelmingly Latino discontent with GOP leaders, candidates and issues — follows a multitude of other polls that show Republicans’ gains with Latino voters in 2024 have largely faded amid discontent with Trump’s second-term economic and immigration policies.
“There’s no question that the last 18 months have been very difficult ones for the community,” said Latino Community Foundation CEO Julián Castro at a virtual news conference Tuesday morning. “This represents quite a swing back from the narrative that was developed around the community after the 2024 election, and so I hope that both parties will spend time courting the Latino vote.”
Roughly half of Hispanic voters backed Trump in his reelection campaign — the highest support for a Republican presidential candidate in modern history. In California, congressional districts with larger Latino populations saw much larger shifts toward Trump.
Latino political experts have previously told The Sacramento Bee that the demographic will likely swing to the left this November, though the shift is not from renewed faith for Democrats but rather a rejection of the party in power. In particular, Latinos’ frustration stems from concerns about the economy and cost of living.
“(Latinos are) gonna leave the Republicans for the exact same reasons that they left the Democrats two years ago,” said Mike Madrid, a longtime Latino voting expert and author, Monday in a post on X. “It’s the economy, stupid.”
A poll, commissioned by Madrid’s Latino Working Class Project in August, found that just 28% of Latino voters approved of Trump’s job in his second term. About 63% of Hispanic respondents said they planned to vote for the Democratic congressional candidate in their district, earlier this month.

The poll released Tuesday surveyed 1,250 registered voters earlier this month in California. Just 25% of those surveyed approved of the job Trump is doing. About the same amount believed the country was going in the right direction.
Respondents also favored Democrats over Republicans — 56% to 19% — to address their most important issue listed, which overwhelmingly was cost living and inflation. Other top issues included housing costs and affordability, jobs and the economy and healthcare costs.
About 78% of those surveyed believed the current administration’s policies had not helped address cost of living and inflation. And nearly 60% of people said their personal financial situations had worsened since Trump took office.
“Overall, you have a community that is feeling the pressure of the economy that wants to go in a different direction,” Castro said.
Respondents gave Republicans and Democrats similar marks when asked whether the parties cared enough about the Latino and Hispanic community, with 43% saying Republicans did not care enough and 41% saying the same about Democrats.
The Latino Community Foundation poll was commissioned by BSP Research, which is led by the political scientists Gary Segura and Matt Barreto who both previously worked for the presidential campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden. In past years, some of their polling has shown higher Latino support for Democrats and lower Latino support for Republicans compared to other pollsters.
