Trainer Steve Asmussen told DRF that the daughter of City of Light exited a runner-up finish in Keeneland’s G1 Alcibiades with inflammation in a hind leg tendon. The injury was sustained on the backstretch of the Alcibiades on Oct. 2, when Oh She Said Yes stepped on Summer Starlet’s hind leg, causing her to briefly lose her action, according to DRF.
Summer Starlet will get 90 days off before being re-evaluated, Asmussen told DRF.
“She needs to be treated and obviously stopped on for a period of time and we will do everything that’s in the best interest of her realizing she’s beyond a very special talent and we’ll do everything right to get her back to 100 percent,” Asmussen told DRF.
Campaigned in partnership by BC Stables, Wattswood Stables, Bob Albritton, Jay Graham, and David Baggett, Summer Starlet won her first two starts. She debuted at Saratoga on Aug. 8, taking a 6 ½-furlong maiden special weight by 6 ½ lengths under jockey Jose Ortiz. In her second start, she was sent off as the favorite in the seven-furlong Spinaway and drew off by 4 ¾ lengths under Ricardo Santana Jr.

Flavien Prat was aboard in the Alcibiades, where Summer Starlet was defeated 1 ¼ lengths by Emphatic, with another 17 ½ lengths back to third-place finisher Oh She Said Yes.
Summer Starlet was bred in Kentucky by Newstead Corp. She is out of the winning Street Sense mare Act Now. Summer Starlet is a half-sibling to graded stakes-placed Coach Prime (Quality Road) and multiple stakes-placed Dr Oresan (Kitten’s Joy).
She was purchased by BC Stables for $335,000 at the 2025 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
