Steelers vs. Colts Week 5 Final Predictions: Who Wins and Why?

The Pittsburgh Steelers return home for their Week 5 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, looking to build momentum and improve their standing in the AFC North. After splitting their first four games, the Steelers will try to capitalize on home-field advantage against a Colts team that has struggled historically in Pittsburgh. Mike McCarthy‘s team enters the matchup as a 2.5-point favorite, but Indianapolis has enough offensive firepower to make this a competitive game.

Pittsburgh will need to execute on both sides of the ball to secure the win. The offense has shown signs of improvement in recent weeks, with Jaylen Warren providing a spark in the running game and Roman Wilson emerging as a bigger threat in the passing attack. Defensively, the Steelers will look to capitalize on Daniel Jones‘ history of turnovers against them while keeping Jonathan Taylor from taking over the game. If Pittsburgh can control the tempo and limit Indianapolis’ biggest offensive weapons, the Steelers should come away with a victory.

Steelers Win 20-9

The Steelers are 2-0 at home and 0-2 on the road so far this season. Pittsburgh has benefited from home-field advantage under head coach Mike McCarthy, and the Colts have won just once in Pittsburgh since 1970. The betting line also favors the Steelers, who enter the matchup as 2.5-point favorites.

Make no mistake, though: the Colts will give Pittsburgh a tough time. This game likely won’t get out of hand, and Indianapolis will challenge the Steelers in multiple ways. Still, Pittsburgh’s defense has historically given Daniel Jones problems and will look to capitalize on that trend again.

Steelers Offensive Outlook

The Steelers face a Colts defense that has struggled at times this season. Although Indianapolis has improved defensively over the past couple of weeks, Pittsburgh’s offense has also made progress. The Steelers aren’t a finished product by any stretch, but they’ve found a rhythm they can build on, thanks in part to Warren’s emergence as a spark plug in the offense. Perhaps most importantly, a young receiver is beginning to make his mark.

Wilson has delivered big plays and scored touchdowns in back-to-back games. He now looks poised to serve as the Steelers’ de facto WR2. His expanded role could also create more opportunities for Germie Bernard to see the field, while Pat Freiermuth could benefit from additional targets. Ultimately, however, the biggest factor in Pittsburgh’s offensive outlook is the quarterback.

Steelers Defensive Outlook

Pittsburgh’s defense has consistently given Jones trouble throughout his career. In three games against the Steelers, Jones has thrown six interceptions, taken 12 sacks and lost three fumbles. Those numbers highlight his struggles against a Pittsburgh defense that returns much of its personnel from 2025. Although the Steelers have a new coaching staff, their defense has continued to generate takeaways, averaging two per game.

The biggest key will be limiting Jonathan Taylor in the running game. Taylor is the Colts’ most important offensive difference-maker, capable of changing the complexion of a game with his ability to break tackles and create explosive plays. He has produced solid numbers against Pittsburgh but hasn’t delivered a truly dominant performance against the Steelers. Pittsburgh must keep it that way in Week 5 by limiting Taylor’s opportunities and forcing Indianapolis to rely more heavily on its passing game.
